The other day, I stood outside the strangely silent building where I began life as a journalist. It is no longer the human warren that was Consolidated Press in Sydney, though ghosts still drink at the King's Head pub nearby.
As a cadet reporter, I might have walked on to the set of Lewis Milestone's The Front Page. Men in red braces did shout, "Hold the front page", and tilt back their felt hats and talk rapidly with a roll-your-own attached indefinitely to their lower lip. You could feel the presses rumbling beneath and smell the ink.

The Occupy movement has been criticised for its lack of focus and demands, yet in Adelaide there is a clear focus for direct action: Rupert Murdoch.
Hence the name: Occupy Murdoch.
Occupy Murdoch specifically focuses on corporate controlled media, especially News Corporation. Adelaide's daily tabloid The Advertiser is a Murdoch paper that publishes rubbish dressed up as 鈥渘ews鈥 to distract people and supports specific political interests.

The scandal engulfing Rupert Murdoch and his global media empire is giving the world a glimpse of what the face of power looks like today 鈥 and it鈥檚 ugly.
The revelations of networks of patronage and power, which link politicians and the police to corporate interests that believe themselves to be above laws, ethics or scrutiny, are frightening.

Presumably by tomorrow it will turn out they planted a bug in Heather Mills鈥檚 false leg and hacked into Stephen Hawking鈥檚 voicebox.
The only thing that tarnishes it slightly is now everyone hates Murdoch. It鈥檚 like when you follow an obscure band and they become famous.
When it comes to comparing the cases of two publishers of secret information 鈥 WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange and billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch 鈥 the hypocrisy from politicians and media is huge.
