Suggestions wanted

"It was a time when I thought, I've done everything, the $10 million deal, the $100 million deal and the billion-dollar deal, and you ask, where do you go from there?" — Corporate raider Sir Ron Brierley, describing a mid-life crisis.

"I didn't speak; I listened. This is the new me." — John Hewson on the Liberal Party meeting which examined the reasons for the federal election result.

A man of his word

"You can't just unbundle Fightback and just drop bits and pieces at will." — The old John Hewson, before listening to the party meeting which told him to unbundle Fightback and drop bits and pieces of it.

Graffiti of the month

ALP Senator Peter Walsh's office in Perth is located on the first floor of the Labor Centre, directly opposite the women's toilet. For some weeks, Walsh had a sign on his door declaring "Greens Cost Jobs". Tired of this stupidity, an anonymous green/left female stuck a sign next to Walsh's: "Greens don't cost jobs but right-wing pricks do".

Brilliant

"I actually warm to Paul Keating. He's a brilliant, brilliant politician. Make no mistake about it. He's made a number of judgments about the Australian electorate that are just so accurate." — Right-wing NSW Liberal MLA Michael Yabsley.

Bad connection

"I have a telephone and I will run the country myself." — Russian President Boris Yeltsin, when asked who would be in charge while he was away at the summit meeting in Canada.
