Prominent Australians have joined the global call on the government of Turkey to free Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The call was made on the 25th anniversary of the international conspiracy of various secret services that led to Öcalan's expulsion from Syria, and several European countries, and his subsequent abduction in Kenya.

Öcalan has been imprisoned in Turkey since February 1999 and has been denied contact with lawyers and his family for the last three years.
