Swaziland democracy protest

Protests have erupted in Eswatini, a southern African kingdom formerly known as Swaziland, following the alleged police murder of a law student in early May, reports Maxime Bowen.

Peter Boyle reports that聽at the conclusion of a 30,000-strong rally in Bangkok, the young organisers of a new democracy movement called for a general strike on the anniversary of the 1973 student uprising that brought down the Thanom Kittikachorn military dictatorship.

Thousands of students rallied on August 10聽at聽Thammasat University in Bangkok, an iconic place in Thailand's聽long history of pro-democracy struggles,聽in the largest of a string of student-led protests聽since July 18, reports聽Peter Boyle.

On a one-kilometre strip of road in Delhi鈥檚 Shaheen Bagh neighbourhood, hundreds of people, predominantly Muslim women are holding a dharna 鈥 a non-violent, sit-in protest against the Narendra Modi BJP government's fascist citizenship laws 鈥 which has inspired a new mass pro-democracy movement.

The pro-democracy movement in Bahrain has been severely weakened by the brutal wave of repression that began on March 15. Attempts to reignite pro-democracy protests have been broken up by government security forces and strikes have been called off. Troops from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates entered Bahrain on March 14 to help the Bahraini government 鈥渞estore order鈥 by attacking thousands of pro-democracy protesters.
