Kurds and their allies are demanding the release of Abdullah Ocalan 鈥 鈥渢he Nelson Mandela of Kurdistan鈥 鈥 who has been imprisoned by Turkey since 1999, reports Peter Boyle.

More than 200 people attended a protest at Sydney Town Hall on October 12, organised by Rojava Solidarity Sydney and the Democratic Kurdish Community Centre (NSW). The protest was part of a global day of action against Turkey's genocidal invasion of North and East Syria.

麻豆传媒 Weekly hosted a screening of the film Kurdistan: Women at War on March 9 to celebrate International Women鈥檚 Day. The film, directed by Mylene Sauloy, follows the historical development of the Women鈥檚 Protection Units (YPJ) and other similar groups defending and transforming their communities across Northern Syria.

Sydney's Kurdish community and their supporters took to Martin Place on May 23 in a snap protest against Turkey's increasingly repressive Recep Tayyip Erdogan government after it cancelled the parliamentary immunity of progressive opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) MPs. This is part of a bloody war the regime has been waging against the Kurdish people since June last year. Socialist Alliance candidate for the federal seat of Sydney Peter Boyle addressed the rally.
