Solidarity with the Kurdish freedom struggle was stepped up at an inspiring conference held in Melbourne over the June 30鈥揓uly 1 weekend.
The conference, held at Victoria University (VU), discussed the bold experiment in radical democracy, feminism and ecology that is taking place in the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria (DFNS). Most importantly, the conference resolved: 鈥淚t is a duty of supporters of the liberation struggle in northern Syria to make determined efforts to publicise its inspiring achievements and build practical solidarity with it鈥.
A conference on the Rojava Revolution will be held as the struggle in northern Syria enters perhaps its most critical phase.
鈥淭he Rojava Revolution in Northern Syria: An experiment in radical democracy, feminism & ecology鈥 will be held in Melbourne on June 30 and July 1. The event aims to inform participants about the revolutionary process, to discuss the problems it faces and to build support for it.
Indirect internationally-brokered peace talks in Geneva between the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad and a Saudi-backed coalition of some opposition groups were suspended on February 3 鈥 just two days after they started.
Associated Press said that day that 鈥渘either the government nor the opposition even acknowledged that the negotiations had officially begun鈥.
Inside Syria, meanwhile, fighting intensified and the humanitarian situation deteriorated. Advances by government forces, backed by Russian air strikes, were the apparent cause for the talks鈥 collapse.
