Seminar on feminist struggle in northern Syria

"Northern Syria鈥檚 Feminist Revolution" is the title of a one-day seminar to be held at Victoria University on November 4.

It is being jointly organised by the Kurdish Democratic Community Centre of Victoria, the Kurdish Women鈥檚 League of Victoria and the Australians for Kurdistan solidarity group. It is also sponsored by Victoria University鈥檚 Community, Identity and Displacement Research Network.

Melbourne is known for good coffee, horrible weather, Australian Rules football and militant unions. Since 1974, community radio station 3CR has been a supporting beam in the city鈥檚 radical infrastructure.

Community opposes far-right World Congress of Families

Victoria police are vetting registrants and scouting venues to try to provide security for the besieged World Congress of Families in Melbourne on August 30. The final venue for the event remains unclear as they try to avoid clashes with widespread community opposition. Activists are already causing chaos for conference organisers Babette Francis of the Endeavour Forum (formerly Women Who Want to be Women) and John Brennan of the conservative Catholic men鈥檚 group Knights of the Southern Cross.

The school that teaches rebellion

The first School of Rebellion, held in association with Marxism 2013 over the Easter weekend in Melbourne, drew about 30 kids for a weekend of thinking, talking, making noise, art, music, poetry, mess and friends.
