Australian Education Union (AEU) TAFE members joined a state-wide strike on August 21. This the first time in 12 years TAFE teachers have taken strike action.

Juana Martinez, an AEU and Socialist Alliance member, told Green Left: 鈥淭his government is ignoring TAFEs and taking TAFE teachers for granted鈥.

The teachers marched to Parliament House where speakers condemned Labor for failing to present an acceptable offer on pay, workloads and conditions, and career paths, after two years of negotiations. The strike comes after TAFE teachers walked out of class in June and July.

Some 800 AEU members voted unanimously to step up industrial action with more bans and strikes, together with a political campaign targeting Labor MP鈥檚 electorate offices.
