The public launch and unveiling of the Bondi Memorial Rise at Marks Park on June 4 honouring lives lost and survivors of LGBTI hate and violence, from the 1970s to the 1990s, was a moving commemoration.

Rise, crafted by John Nicholson, is on the headland of Marks Park in Tamarama, in the inner east.

As many as and many more members of the LGBTIQ community were assaulted over those decades. However, the true number, will probably never be known as people did not report to the police for fear of homophobic reprisal.
