A concerted campaign to stop Gloucester Resources Limited’s open-cut coalmine on agricultural land in Gloucester has been rewarded. The NSW Department of Planning and the Environment recommended on October 23 that GRL’s Rocky Hill mine not be given approval.Â
The project for four open-cut pits operating 24 hours a day involved major pieces of infrastructure, including a coal handling and preparation plant and a rail load-out facility.
The Planning Assessment Commission, which has the final say on the project, is yet to set a date for a public hearing and final determination.
