Aboriginal rights activists rallied across the country on November 13 against Black deaths in custody. The protests were organised in response to a police officer shooting and killing Warlpiri man Kumanjayi Walker.
About 1000 people marched in Meanjin (Brisbane) and, in Sydney, marchers sat down at key interÂ鶹´«Ã½ on their way to Surry Hills police station.
The officer has since been charged with murder. While the Walker family and broader Yuendumu community welcome the murder charge, they maintain it is not enough.
The demands of the community are for comprehensive justice including an independent investigation, a coronial inquest to take place in Yuendumu, for 24-hour medical staffing in the community, no police for at least one year and alternative community policing such as Night Patrol.
