Yousef Alreemawi, a veteran Palestinian activist, told a public forum on October 24, that solidarity with Palestinians is more important than ever.
It gives us “hope”, he said, adding “it means so much to the Palestinians who are resisting occupation every day”.
The forum, hosted by 鶹ý and Socialist Alliance, also heard from unionist Michael Bull who had recently returned from an of Palestine and a humanitarian worker.
The meeting was chaired by Sue Bolton, the Socialist Alliance Merri-Bek Councillor.
Alreemawi, who is active in Free Palestine Melbourne and presents the 3CR Community Radio program “Palestine Remembered”, said that Israel’s war on Gaza reminds the world of Israel’s colonisation of Palestine and its continuing occupation.
Bull highlighted the Western leaders’ complicity in supporting the genocide, saying Labor is attempting to minimise Israel’s war crimes. He encouraged activists to protest outside Labor MPs’ offices, such as one on Sydney Road in Coburg on October 28.
The humanitarian worker described the situation in Gaza as a “catastrophe” as hospitals, schools, places of worship and residential areas are all being bombed.
