Web site (http://www.knooppunt.be/~euskadi/) — A site devoted to spreading information about the struggle of the Basque people for self-determination is up and running again after the Swiss internet provider closed the site. This political censorship followed a Spanish media barrage against the Basque presence on the net and an organised "cyber-terror" attack of thousands of e-mail "bombs" which saturated and crashed the internet provider's computers.

Euskadi Information is now based in Belgium and able to offer news and information about the Basque struggle and to promote a real solution for the political conflict with the Spanish state through dialogue and negotiation. The site offers information in five languages. As well as news and political updates, there are items on language, culture, sport and even Basque cooking. Information is gathered from progressive Basque newspapers, pro-independence left groups and Herri Batasuna, the main pro-independence party in Euskadi.

Fighting the death penalty in the US — There is a worldwide movement against the death penalty in the United States, motivated by the racist thrust of the US judicial system, which populates death rows throughout the US disproportionately with African-Americans and other minorities. (http://www.derechos.org/amnesty/dp/) which provides regular updates and calls for action to stop or delay impending executions. Surfers can write to death row written by visiting http://www.bruderhof.org/issues/deathpen/literary. For a more radical activist approach, the (http://www.igc.apc.org/prisons) provides "resources for organisers, educators and activists". Another site worth a look is (http://www.hooked.net/users/plehner/dp/).

McSpotlight passes 1 million — (http://www.mcspotlight.org/), the web site that exposes the unethical practices of McDonald's and other big businesses, recently received its 1 millionth hit. The site reached this milestone after just six weeks. One million hits translates to about 50,000 separate visits by people from around the world. The "What's Wrong with McDonald's?" leaflet which is at the heart of the McDonald's libel trial has been viewed more than 5000 times.

Mad cows on the web — McSpotlight is proving to be very popular with people looking for information on mad cow disease. McSpotlight has added pages especially to inform about this frightening disease and its links with big business and government cutbacks. Try http://www.mcspotlight.org/company/thisweek/bse.html, http://www.mcspotlight.org/beyond/madcow.html, http://www.mcspotlight.org/beyond/bse_links.html. The web site (http://www.av.qnet.com/~newveg) carries a fascinating transcript of an ex-cattle rancher, Howard Lyman, who appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Lyman predicts that the US will almost certainly be hit by the disease. One hundred thousand dead cows a year are ground up and fed to cattle.
