About 30 people gathered in Katoomba on November 23 to watch The Last Sky, a documentary made by Rihab Charida and Nicholas Hanna, Palestinian and Lebanese-Australian activists.

Members of the local Palestinian and Lebanese community came along.

The film, which has been screened globally, gives an inside view into the lives of Palestinian refugees carving out a life in Lebanese refugee camps.

Many were forced to flee their homes in 1948, during the Nakba, and have been denied their right to return.聽

The group enjoyed a question and answer discussion with filmmaker and Sydney-based lawyer Hanna.

Organiser Stephen Langford said the film screening was a community-building exercise. 鈥淭he Blue Mountains community does care about the Palestinian and Lebanese people.

鈥淲e organised a film night to amplify the less heard voices and to gather together as a community, in solidarity with Lebanese and Palestinian people.

鈥淲e raised about $400 for essentials like mattresses, food and cooking supplies for Palestinians living in the Shatila refugee camp in Lebanon, which has recently been bombed,鈥 Langford said.聽
