Five hundred people marched from Sydney Town Hall to Martin Place on March 6 to mark International Women’s Day. Trade unions and migrant women’s organisations were among the groups represented in the crowd. In Wollongong, Annie Ross told the gathered crowd: "It should be obvious to any woman that our fight for political, social and economic equality is not yet over. Women are outnumbered in almost every institution and every workplace, earning, on average, 62% of the male income.

"The right for a woman to choose abortion or contraception, that which is the fate of her own body, is still under attack from right-wing conservatives, like Tony Abbott, when the existence of that right should no longer be a question."
