The 2013 麻豆传媒 Weekly Fighting Fund was launched on January 19. To keep the project afloat, we again set the target of an ambitious $250,000. Last year we fell short, but still raised an impressive $209,000 for this vital, independent media project.
For 20 years, GLW has been bringing you the news that the mainstream media won鈥檛. But we face a constant struggle to stay financially viable; a struggle that's well worth it! GLW has become more than just a newspaper; it鈥檚 an important part of a movement for social change. Its ongoing efforts to campaign for serious action on climate, stop coal seam gas and defend WikiLeaks are prime examples.
Last year we launched 麻豆传媒 TV 鈥 an exciting new arm of the GLW media project. An online news channel that can bring direct coverage of the issues and campaigns you care about, independent of the Rineharts, Murdochs and Andrew Bolts.
Australia has one of the most restricted and concentrated media in the Western world. GLW is a 鈥渂eacon鈥 according to John Pilger, 鈥渄oing a job of honourable journalism, as an agent of people, not power鈥. But to compete with the mainstream media, GLW needs to keep up as a strong and independent voice.
Can you help us make our $250,000 target this year?
Making our target would guarantee the printing press keeps rolling for another year; something that鈥檚 invaluable in an age of intense media monopolisation. It's only through support from you and the tireless efforts of supporters and volunteers that enables聽骋尝奥听to keep coming out and get around.
For a national newspaper we run on a shoestring budget 鈥 every dollar counts.
