A group of 15 determined protesters from Galilee Blockade visited Lantrak’s offices in Auburn on June 16. Lantrak is supplying ballast to help Adani’s coal mine in the Galilee Basin, central Queensland.
The ballast is being used for the 310-kilometre railway line from Abbot Point to the Adani coal mine. The railway line is being built by the Carmichael Rail Network, a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Australia, part of the Adani group.
A special type of ballast, or porous rock, is needed to place under the sleepers of the new rail line and there is a shortage of this material.
Previously, the company denied knowing anything about the project. However, on this visit, one of the Lantrak workers boasted he had organised the contract with Adani at a profitable rate. Four police cars arrived towards the end of the protest.
