A commissioned by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage has found communities across New South Wales are big fans of renewable energy.
An overwhelming 91% of the 2000 people surveyed across NSW said they support the use of renewables to generate electricity.
The survey also found 81% support wind farms; 83% believed that NSW should produce more electricity from renewables and 80% believe renewable energy provides both environmental and economic benefits.
Virtually all respondents (99%) said they had heard of solar and wind and knew 鈥渁 lot鈥 or 鈥渁 moderate amount鈥 about solar power (74%) and wind power (57%).
But awareness of other renewable energy technologies was lower, with awareness of hydroelectric power at 31%, bioenergy 3% and geothermal power 9%.
