It is bad enough that Australia has climate rogue status due to its fossil fuel exports but now the Coalition government wants the country to become one of the world’s top 10 arms exporting countries.
Several peace groups organised protest at Darling Harbour on May 10, the venue of 2022 Indo Pacific Expo naval arms bazaar in Sydney.
Speakers included: Nick Deane, a member of the Independent and Peaceful Australia Network, Marrickville Peace Group and the Sydney Anti-AUKUS Coalition; former Greens Senator Lee Rhiannon; Alexander Brown, a member of Wollongong Against War and Nukes; Lynda Forbes Hunter Peace Group; Warren Smith, Deputy National Secretary of the Maritime Union of Australia; Pip Hinman, Sydney Stop The War Coalition and the Socialist Alliance; Jake Lynch, Associate Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney and the Patron of BDS Australia; Nick, Communist Party of Australia; and Wendy Bacon, academic, investigative journalist and activist.
Patrick Harte performed several anti-war songs.
