Wollongong students strike

WOLLONGONG — Students at Wollongong Uni were called upon to strike by their SRC on July 29 to protest against the high level of fees and charges levied by the administration.
According to Craig Wallace, president of the SRC, fees are well above the national average and should "be abolished because they are either illegal according to the meaning and intent of the Higher Education Funding Act or are simply unjust".
Support for the strike was mixed, with only 5% of creative arts students attending lectures but around 90% of those in the sciences turning up.
Many of the students Â鶹´«Ã½ spoke to on the day were in agreement with the issue but not happy with the SRC's call for students to stay at home. Many felt that actions should have been organised bringing students together.
