World Press Freedom Day on May 3 was marked in many places, including outside the ABC Centre and Channel 7 studios in Martin Place where campaigners for Julian Assange's release gathered.

Weekly Friday demonstrations have been organised by Assange’s supporters at the Sydney Town Hall for more than a year now.

They have included street theatre, speeches, poetry and song, including musician Billy Field of Bad Habits fame. They want the Australian government to take action to free Assange, persecuted and prosecuted for revealing United States government war crimes.
