Funeral march against AIDEX
By Tyrion Perkins
BRISBANE — The Stop AIDEX Campaign staged a funeral march through city streets on September 24 to publicise the link between the Australian International Defence Equipment Exhibition, to be held in Canberra in November, and the deaths that will result from arms industry sales it will promote.
During the protest a drum banged as people wearing T-shirts with slogans such as "AIDEX is blood money" lifted a coffin and carried it through the streets. Street theatre was performed while protesters distributed leaflets to passers-by.
The Brisbane Stop AIDEX Campaign will be performing street theatre in the Mall every second Friday night from October 4.
