Rally for Palestine I
BRISBANE — A speakout against Israel's terror against the Palestinian people was held on the steps of King George Square on March 22. Organised by the M1 Alliance, the action drew attention to the Palestinian people's continued resistance to Israel's escalating war in the Occupied Territories.
Rally for Palestine II
CANBERRA — The second consecutive weekly rally for justice for the Palestinian people was held outside the Israeli embassy on March 22. The protest was organised by Resistance in conjunction with the Canberra Mosque in Yarralumla.
Participants marched from the mosque to the embassy. They chanted, "Stop the killing, stop the slaughter, Israel out now". Speakers from Resistance, the Democratic Socialist Party and the Canberra Mosque addressed the rally. It was decided to protest at the embassy again on April 5.
Timber workers for forests
@9 point non = HOBART — Timber Workers for Forests was formed in November and was launched with a public display on the Parliament House lawns on March 2.
Spokesperson Graham Green said that "without substantial change to the forest management strategy our options for a sustainable timber industry will be destroyed in the next decade as the remaining areas of mixed native forest disappear". One intricately crafted dining table on display was adorned with the label "this table would cost 60 cents as woodchips".
