Easter this year will be different across Australia. In four cities, it will take on a distinctly Russian hue.
Not that Â鶹´«Ã½ is promoting painted eggs. As regular readers will know, Russian writer and socialist activist Boris Kagarlitsky is attending and speaking at "Campaigning for Socialism" conferences in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth over the Easter weekend.
As well as speaking at public meetings and regular sessions and signing copies of his books, Boris Kagarlitsky will also be keynote speaker at several Â鶹´«Ã½ dinners.
In Melbourne on Friday, April 14, and again in Sydney on Saturday, April 15, Kagarlitsky will be special guest of Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly, delivering the main speech of the evening. In Brisbane on the Saturday, Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly editor Allen Myers will speak, along with Terasita Carpio of the United Workers of the Philippines.
Whichever of these cities you may live in (or near), the conference and the dinners will be a political experience not to be missed. On their own, Â鶹´«Ã½ dinners are always a significant gathering of the left and progressive activists. With the added element of international guests, the dinners this Easter are an even greater attraction.
Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly dinners are a significant means of raising funds for the paper's annual fund appeal. Coming along means not only enjoying a political night, but also helping Â鶹´«Ã½ beat the creditors for another year. Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly — it's your newspaper. n
