Meeting supports sexuality bill

PERTH — On April 4, 25 members of Perth's gay community met with Australian Democrat Sid Spindler to support his proposed bill to outlaw discrimination on the grounds of sexuality.
Spindler has already consulted with gay and lesbian community representatives and organisations in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart.
Issues discussed at the Perth meeting at the Northbridge Hotel included that private organisations and religious institutions should not be exempted from the bill, legal equality for relationships and the age of consent.
Spindler concluded the meeting by advocating that the Human Rights Commission hold an inquiry into discrimination suffered by gays and lesbians.
The bill will go before parliament in June.
