-2>MELBOURNE — The Hazardous Materials Action Group (HAZMAG) is seeking help in raising funds to send two of its activists to the national convention of the United States Clearinghouse for Hazardous Wastes, to be held in Virginia May 15-17. The conference is held only every three years and is a major event for the environment movement. HAZMAG is trying to raise $4000 to cover air fares and expenses. l The Western Region Urban Advisory Centre is putting together a skills directory which will make accessible the vast experience of a variety of planning and environmental groups active in Melbourne's western suburbs. NEWCASTLE — The first Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly reading circle was held here on Friday, April 2, at the Resistance Centre. Discussion focused on that week's GLW cover stories: Renfrey Clarke's reports on the situation in Russia and Karen Fredericks' "Anti-choice terrorism in the US". The reading circle will be held every Friday at 6.30 p.m. at the Resistance Centre, Suite 15, 509 Hunter St, Newcastle West.
SYDNEY — Supporters of the ANC, anti-apartheid activists and South Africans gathered on April 15 at the Pitt St Uniting Church to pay their last respects to slain ANC and SACP leader Chris Hani. Speakers included Ndumiso Ntshinga, ANC representative to Australia, and South African journalist Allister Sparks. Officiating was the Reverend Dorothy McRae-McMahon. Members of the Solidarity Choir led the gathering in the anthem, "Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrica". n
