The recent attacks on the Greens by notable Labor Party figures over the refusal of the Greens to compromise on offshore processing of asylum seekers represents a new low for the Labor Party. The attacks by assorted Labor right-wingers are predictable, but most disappointing was Labor Left Senator Doug Cameron鈥檚 criticism, outrageously accusing the Greens of being responsible for asylum seekers dying because of their 鈥減urist approach鈥.
The Greens鈥 attempt to challenge Australia鈥檚 Afghan war policy in parliament last year has, by and large, sunk without trace. In spite of recent polls showing , Australia鈥檚 Afghan commitment rolls on, with the recent deaths of more Australian soldiers. And the war continues to of Afghan civilians.
, May 3 鈥 Marrickville Council may have backed off supporting the Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign but by highlighting the plight of the Palestinians, the Council鈥檚 initiative in this area, and the pro-BDS stance of the NSW Greens, has ensured that this will only be the beginning of the debate, not least of all within the Greens themselves.
