The rise of veteran socialist MP Jeremy Corbyn to become leader of the British Labour Party has caused a political earthquake.

With hundreds of thousands of people flooding into the Labour Party in support of his anti-austerity platform, Corbyn has not just survived a coup by the corporate-media backed Labour establishment, but was re-elected with a greater mandate 鈥 using his victory speech to argue in favour of fighting for 鈥渟ocialism of the 21st century鈥.聽

However, Western powers 鈥 in particular the US and Britain 鈥 have been arming and bankrolling Saudi Arabia throughout the war. Corbyn聽stunned the political world when he won Labour's leadership in September last year聽with a "from nowhere win" on the back of anti-austerity politics.

On September 8, coinciding with the mass rallies in support of the CUB 55 in Melbourne, trade union activists tried to confront the company management of SAB Miller at their headquarters in London. SAB Miller is the parent company of CUB, with a total operating profit of $4.4 billion.

The situation is deteriorating in 鈥渢he Jungle鈥 鈥 the informal settlement in the northern French port of Calais of refugees trying to reach Britain.

French police demolished the southern half earlier this year, yet the population is steadily rising and has surpassed 10,000. Neglected by governments and NGOs, the volunteers who provide food, clothing and other aid are receiving fewer donations to assist the growing population. Hunger has become prevalent, along with diseases caused by lack of sanitation.
