Young revolutionaries: Why we'll be there

"I spent last year in Latin America, covering the amazing political developments, particularly in Venezuela and Bolivia, for Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly. In a context where we are told that 'capitalism is the only way', and that the US empire has the right to subjugate and exploit people around the world, the Venezuelan revolution is opening up a discussion about a real alternative and inspiring people everywhere that we can struggle for change — and win."

Kiraz Janicke, conference organiser & Sydney Resistance member

"Resistance has recently launched a branch in Geelong, and we've already had great success in organising young people. We initiated the Geelong 'Up Yours Howard' young workers' conference and we've been able to build a branch of active members. The Resistance conference will give us an opportunity to properly understand how Resistance works as a national organisation. We look forward to talking with other Resistance members about what political activities work best in their cities and to learn how we can build our own branch. We believe that an ongoing struggle against Work Choices will give us an opportunity to introduce people to the ideas of socialism. As we struggle, this will show people that resistance is possible and people power can make a difference. Dare to struggle, dare to win!"

Dirk van Dalen & Ben Peterson, Geelong Resistance members.

"I'm looking forward to meeting all the revolutionary young activists from around Australia at the conference. I got into 'revolutionary' or activist hip hop several years ago and I found that if I was going to write political raps that were relevant to today, then I'd better get to know the issues and the activists — that's why I joined Resistance. As well as political discussion, the conference will also include cultural events that provide the chance for radical young people to exchange ideas. It's empowering to get to know how capitalism works and how socialism will work so that you can confidently fight the root cause of most of the problems in our world — mass starvation, war and environmental destruction."

Zane Alcorn, Newcastle student & hip-hop artist.
