'Welcome' for Bush

By Dick Nichols

SYDNEY —Twenty-five years after Lyndon Baines Johnson, the last president of the United States to visit these shores, was met with mass demonstrations, the Hawke government has invited his successor, Emperor George, to meet the Australian people.

This time around, they no doubt calculate, there will be no wave of protest against the saviour of Kuwait.

However, the Sydney Middle East Action Coalition is determined to prove otherwise. It has called an organising meeting of all those interested in protesting against the visit. This will take place on September 5, at 6 p.m. in Trades Hall, Goulburn St, City.

All concerned with Washington's policies, from peace activists to wheat farmers, are welcome to attend. n
