'A taste of something better'

June 27, 2001

"Before S11, I was just getting a taste of the extent to which the planet and its inhabitants have been hurt. S11 was a taste of something better: people, lots of people joining together for the common good, not individual gain. That was symbolic of the kind of society I want.

"I was already in Resistance when I went to S11 but that week is what made me an activist. From childhood, I thought the state would keep me safe and that the system would work it all out. I was wrong. Resistance is part of creating a better system. We look beyond the mainstream and act on it."

Ewan Saunders, Brisbane university Resistance activist.
