The Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly fighting fund has received a huge boost over the last couple of weeks, thanks to the efforts of hard working supporters and volunteers around the country. So far this month, $24,600 has been sent in to the fighting fund, largely from successful fundraising events organised by our supporters.
A huge thanks to everyone who helped organise and attend these wonderful events.
Hundreds of people attended successful May Day solidarity dinners organised by GLW in Geelong, Perth and Parramatta. In Wollongong, GLW screened Simon Cunich's film Growing Change, about the food sovereignty movement in Venezuela. It was shown to more than 90 people over two evenings.
Most spectacularly, 320 people turned out for a night of hilarity and solidarity at GLW’s annual comedy debate in Melbourne. The strong support from trade unionists for this event was appreciated.
We’ve now raised $71,356 for the fighting fund since the start of the year. This is still short of where we should be to meet our $250,000 annual target. But with a few more months like May, we will catch up in no time.
Fundraising for a project like GLW can be stressful and a lot of work. It’s not often we get to trumpet great news like this. So a collective congratulations to everyone who have helped GLW reach this year's fighting fund target.
These past few weeks have shown that together — all doing our bit — we can ensure the financial viability of Australia’s leading radical, not-for-profit media source for this year and beyond.
