Social action conference planned
SYDNEY — YOUTH RIGHTS ADVOCATES and community development groups will come together here in November for a major international conference, Education and Social Action.
The conference, to be held at the University of Technology, Sydney from November 30-December 2, will "encourage research and enquiry to promote practice that helps people analyse and address social injustices", organisers say. Topics planned for discussion include cultural action, health education and community development, learning and action in the environment movement, the "pedagogy and politics of working with young people" and the history and traditions of education and social action.
The conference is being organised by the Centre for Popular Education, in partnership with the Nature Conservation Council of NSW, Bankstown Women's Health Centre, Youth Action and Policy Association, Mercy Family Centre, Meadowbank TAFE Outreach and the Community Arts Association of SA.
Organisers are calling for all interested in presenting workshops to the conference to contact them as soon as possible by email at <cpe@uts.edu.au> or telephone at (02) 9514 3843.
