Rising Tide climate activists disrupted Opposition Leader Peter Duttonā€™s speech at the Lowy Institute. They held up a banner reading: ā€œNUCLEAR LIES COST US ALLā€.

Zack Schofield and Nigel Cox from Rising Tide unfurled the banner and asked Dutton: ā€œWhy are you lying to the Australian people?ā€

Federal Police and security escorted them out of the building.

ā€œThe Coalitionā€™s scheme to force nuclear into Australiaā€™s energy grid is going to cost $600 billion to the taxpayer, add up to $1,200 to peopleā€™s energy bills and produce 1.6 billion tonnes of climate pollution by 2050,ā€ Schofield said.

ā€œThis idea is so colossally dumb that weā€™re now even seeing Liberal stalwarts campaigning against their own party.ā€

Schofield said ex-tropical cyclone Alfred showed the devastating impact of the climate crisis is already here. ā€œWe cannot afford more distraction and delay with absolute potato policies like nuclear.ā€
