Why

In February this year, the U.N. Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, said “2023 is a year of reckoning. We need disruption to end the destruction.â€

This forum will discuss why we need a mass, disruptive movement and how we can build one that has the power to match the urgency of the climate crisis and achieve transformative change.

Speakers:

  • Dominic Guerrera - a Ngarrindgeri, Kaurna and Italian background poet
  • Professor Melissa Nursey-Bray - University of Adelaide, on engaging communities in environmental decision making
  • Senator Barbara Pocock - Greens SA, current climate politics
  • Alexa Stuart - 19-year-old climate activist from Rising Tide Newcastle.

Please RSVP here:

This is the Adelaide leg of Rising Tide’s climate justice speaking tour promoting Rising Tide’s next national mobilisation: a 2-day, 3,000 strong, family-friendly flotilla blockade of Newcastle port, the largest coal port in the world, in November.

Over sixteen days Rising Tide organisers will drive nearly 5,000km and host forums and trainings in the Northern Rivers, Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.
