Poll finds more than half of Irish youth would join an anti-gov't uprising

A survey found a mass uprising against theIrishgovernment would be joined by more than half of young people in the country,an April 26 Independent article said.

Fifty four per cent of 18-34-year-olds said they would take part ina “large scale uprising against the generation in power if it happened in the next days or months”.

The survey polled nearly 20,000 people in Ireland as part of the European Broadcasting Union’sGeneration What?𲹰.

It showed thatabout 76% viewed politicians ascorrupt or partly corrupt.

The article said: “The survey also found that the [Catholic] Church – traditionally a majorinstitution in Ireland – appearedto have less influence over the country’s youth. Only 2% of those questionedsaid they completely trusted the Church and 56% they didn’t trust it at all.”

The police were also not trusted by a large portion of people surveyed.
