Marek Edelman, the last surviving leader of the Warsaw ghetto uprising during the Second World War, has accused the conservative religious broadcaster Radio Maryja of "xenophobia, chauvinism and anti-Semitism" and has called on Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz to take action against the station. This follows similar appeals from the Media Ethics Council. The Catholic fundamentalist station has allegedly carried numerous reports accusing Jews of taking advantage of the Holocaust for economic profit. Edelman has likened the station's broadcasts to those made by the Nazi media. According to a Reuters report, Marcinkiewicz rejected the need for action against the station, saying he likes appearing on Radio Maryja as "it allowed him to fully explain his thoughts without being interrupted by journalists".
