These photographs were taken on October 17 from Sydney's inner-west — many kilometres away from the nearest fires (which were in the Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Newcastle) in what has been described as the worst bush fires in the state of NSW in decades.
One man died and hundreds of homes were destroyed. The air is acrid and ash is still falling all over the city. Visually, it was an apocalyptic reminder of the reality of the climate change crisis and the utter irresponsibility to those in power who refuse to take emergency action to phase out fossil fuels and transition to totally renewable energy.
