Why

On November 17th, school students from across the country will be STRIKING for climate and demanding that Albanese and Plibersek #ShiftThePower away from Fossil Fuels by ending all approvals and subsidies of new fossil fuel projects!

We will be marching from Florence Hummerstone Reserve towards the Perth Conventions Centre where the WA Energy Transition Conference will be taking place, where key political leaders and fossil fuel company representatives will meet to discuss the energy transition in WA. We will be making our voices heard to ensure that these leaders know we demand a safe future, and there is no place for WA's huge proposed gas projects in this! We are striking in Perth to send a clear message to the Labor Party, Albanese and Plibersek: Shift The Power from Fossil Fuels!

Despite the devastating impacts on climate disasters, such as bushfires, floods and droughts, across the country and the world, disproportionately impacting our rural and regional communities, first nations communities and our Pacific Island neighbours, Labor has continued to listen to their fossil fuel donors instead of the demands of the people. The Federal Government allocated $9 Billion of funding in Fossil Fuel Subsidies in the 2023-24 Budget, has approved 4 coal mines in less than a year, and continues, to support Santos fracking on Gomeroi country, fracking in the Beetaloo Basin in the NT, and the Burrup Gas Hub to go ahead in WA.

It is time to demand Labor #ShiftThePower away from fossil fuels and toward a clean and just future for all.
