BRISBANE — The Queensland government last week waived an environmental impact statement for developer Keith Williams' expansion of his Cardwell resort development on the doorstep of the World Heritage-listed Hinchinbrook Island.

The waiver means Williams will be able to expand the resort by 12 hectares to accommodate 1800 people rather than the initial 1500. Early in October, Williams was issued a special lease granting him authority over waterfront land adjacent to Oyster Point Marine Park.
