After a seven-year battle by the Malaysian Socialist Party (PSM) to obtain legal registration, the Appeals Court will hear the case on April 10. This follows attempts to pursue the case with the Registrar of Society, the Home Ministry, the Public Complaints Bureau and the High Court.

In support of the PSM's right to registration, 36 organisations put a joint memorandum to home affairs minister Datuk Azmi Khalid in March 2005. This was followed by a solidarity protest in November.

The PSM is urgently appealing for international solidarity to add weight to a big protest planned outside the court on April 10. Email the home affairs minister at < hamzahA href="mailto:hamid@moha.gov.my"><hamid@moha.gov.my> or fax (+603) 8889 1610. Defend the PSM's right of association and call for an end to its persecution. Email solidarity messages before April 7 to the PSM at <psmhq@tm.net.my> or <arul.psm@qmail.com> or fax (+603) 8737 4772.
