Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly $100,000 Emergency Appeal: A special appeal to our North American readers

With just two weeks to go in our emergency appeal, we have $15,700 more to raise to meet our target. Your contribution, big or small, will help us make or even exceed our $100,000 target.

One reason for our confidence that we will make our target is the growing number of donations from the readers of the Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly website. On average we are getting 10,000 visitors to every day.

Our internet readership is many times that of those who buy copies of the paper, or subscribe to it. It is the most-read political website in Australia and ranks high internationally. Google-search any political issue and chances are you'll come up with several links to < http://www.greenleft.org.au> on the very first page of your search result.

It is wonderful that our internet readers are rallying to support us with donations and/or , but we reckon there's more help we can get from that section of our readership.

A large proportion of our internet readers are from North America. Several North American readers also participate actively in the Â鶹´«Ã½ discussion list and a group of supporters of Â鶹´«Ã½ who live in Canada and the United States have written a special appeal to North American readers to help us out financially. We are proud to have among the signatories of this special appeal, Peter Camejo, the Greens 2003 candidate for Governor of California and running mate of Ralph Nader in the 2004 US presidential election. A stirring orator and one of the best-known living socialists in the US, Camejo was labeled by then Governor Ronald Reagan as "one of the ten most dangerous men in the country" when he was a student activist on Berkeley campus in the 1960s.

Dear Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly North American reader,

Whether you get Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly in hard copy or on the web, you know it is a valuable source of news and analysis about the international struggle against capitalism's wars, intensifying global exploitation of workers and peasants, destruction of the environment, racism, sexism, homophobia and every form of oppression and degradation of humanity.

Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly needs our support immediately! The paper is currently facing a financial crisis, and needs $100,000 right away! Won't you join us in making whatever pledge you can to this emergency campaign? We are long-time activists in Canada and the US.

Donations can be made at , or email <peterb@greenleft.org.au>.

Thank you!

Signed,

From USA: Peter Camejo, Fred Feldman, Caroline Lund, Malik Miah, Barry Sheppard

From Canada: Phil Coureneyeur, Richard Fidler, Jess Mackenzie, John Riddell, Ernie Tate, Suzanne Weiss, Roger Annis
