On April 15, Geelong unionists hosted a reception for Ark Tribe, an Adelaide construction worker facing six months in jail for refusing to be interrogated by the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC). Tribe was invited to the meeting by the Geelong Construction Forestry Mining Energy Union Shop Stewards Committee.
Messages of solidarity and commitment of support were presented to him. Tribe faces court on June 15.
Building workers will rally in Melbourne on April 28, International Workers Memorial Day, to honour workers who have lost their lives while selling their labour to the bosses. The Victorian Building Industry Group of unions will highlight that, since the ABCC was created to harass building workers and their unions, workplace injuries and deaths have increased.
