A snap action was held on December 5 after three activists were denied bail after they were arrested for peacefully protesting on a coal train the day before.
Anna Reynolds from told Â鶹´«Ã½ that that denying bail is "totally unprecedented and seems to undermine fundamental aspects of the justice system".
Activists are disputing some of the charges but "even if they did plead guilty they wouldn't receive a custodial sentence" she said.
This means that they are "being pre-sentenced to upwards of two weeks in custody" which is well beyond what would be an expected penalty for the alleged offences.
