"The family just want the truth to come out," Leetona Dungay told supporters and the media outside the New Coroners Court on March 4. Dungay is the mother of Aboriginal man David Dungay Jnr, who died in Long Bay Jail as a result of assault by prison guards in 2015.

Members of the Dungay family and supporters had gathered at the entrance to the court to express solidarity with Leetona in her quest for justice from the NSW legal system at the coroner's inquiry beginning that day.

"Me and my family have endured so much grief over my son's death," she said. "But we will not stop until we achieve justice.

"The wait has been a problem. We all get frustrated, but we'll stick together and get through this," she said.

Paul Silver, David Dungay Jnr's nephew, told the gathering: "We stand for justice for David. Our family remains strong in our fight.

"We want everyone to be held accountable for their actions. There was no security emergency to justify Corrective Service officers entering David's cell, leading to his death.

"This has got to stop. Enough is enough. Stop killing Aboriginal people!" he said.

NSW Greens MP David Shoebridge told the media: "The community is standing with Leetona and the Dungay family in a stronger way than any other inquest I have experienced."
