Consulate fire links rejected

By Anne Pavy

PERTH — The French Consulate was destroyed by a fire bomb attack on June 17. This story has made headlines around the world, and here some of the establishment media, including ABC Radio, have suggested peace activists may have been involved.

The police and the media suggested that one of the 100 people who attended a peaceful rally against nuclear testing held outside the consulate the day before the fire was involved in the bombing.

Former senator Jo Vallentine told Â鶹´«Ã½ Weekly that "suggestions that members of the anti-nuclear movement were involved in the consulate fire are without foundation. No one involved in the organisation or conduct of the rally has been approached by the police despite constant media assertions that there is a connection with the fire".
