鈥淚t is proof that protest can prevail and that the most powerful world players can be faced down".

Anti-Trump campaigners claimed victory on January 13 after the US president cancelled a planned visit to London in the face of planned mass protests.

Trump was due to cut the ribbon of the new US embassy in south London next month. Trump claimed that he had cancelled the trip because he was unhappy at plans to move the embassy.

reported that Maz Saleem of campaign group Stand Up to Trump welcomed the news, saying: 鈥淚t is a victory for the millions who oppose the president鈥檚 racism, his addiction to war, his sexism and his billionaire鈥檚 contempt for ordinary people.

鈥淚t is proof that protest can prevail and that the most powerful world players can be faced down. We will continue to build the widest possible co-ordination against a future visit in the confidence that we can win again.鈥

Labour鈥檚 London Mayor Sadiq Khan said the real reason Trump cancelled his visit was that he had 鈥済ot the message鈥 that Londoners oppose his bigotry.
