On October 25, 20 people attended a forum on the current situation in Burma. The meeting was organised by the socialist youth organisation Resistance, and featured two human rights activists from Burma — Benya Aye and Sujauddin Karimuddin.
The speakers gave a history of Burma's long struggle for democracy and described the current military regime as "a mafia gang sucking the blood of the people". Both called for Australia to stop providing training to the Burmese military and police, and raised the possibility of holding another solidarity rally in early November.
