Sense of Betrayal — US intelligence officials have coined a phrase — "the Islamic blowback" — for fundamentalist groups based in Pakistan and Afghanistan, fighters once committed to ending the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan. These groups are now increasingly threatening US interests. Ironically, the CIA was instrumental in the arming and funding of their "holy war", but when the Soviet troops pulled out, the US abandoned its erstwhile proteges. SBS, Tuesday, May 7, 8.30pm.

Talking Trash — A rummage through world of US garbage. This program mixes historical footage, statistics and personal stories to create a sadly humorous portrait of capitalist society's romance with disposability. SBS, Wednesday, May 8, 8.30pm.

Movie Matinee: Once Upon a Time in Beirut (1994) — Two young women — one a Christian, the other a Muslim — explore Beirut's past through the images of old films. SBS, Thursday, May 9, 12.30pm.
