ARMIDALE — Since the July 1 Sky Channel meeting and rally to defend workers' rights, attended by 500-600 workers, unionists have been meeting weekly to organise a family picnic and rally on August 7, and to inform the community about the effects that the federal government's planned industrial relations changes will have on the town.

Unionists have made contact with a similar group in Tamworth, and are working with the SOS Collective, a group of students from the University of New England who are campaigning against the government's proposed "voluntary student unionism" legislation.
